Cascade Earrings
This style earring can be made with any combination of beads. The bead mixes at the shop are all well suited to this style. Materials: Fine cable chain (4-6 inches will do) 1 pkg. Bead mix (a variety of 4, 6, and 8mm semi-precious beads, crystal beads) 2 french earwires 1.5" headpins Cut 2 peices of chain measuring the desired final length of your earring when attached to the earwire. For this pair, I used a length of 24 links. For the first earring, lay out your bead mix on a bead mat in the configuration you want to end up with on the chain. The layout can be any combination that appeals to you. Here is an example of a layout I used on this pair: LEGEND X - skip a link BP - 4mm bronze pearl TE6 - 6mm Tiger Eye CN - 4mm Carnelian FWP - Freshwater pearl LCT - 4mm Light Col Topaz crystal TE4 - 4mm Tiger Eye SEQUENCE from top to bottom X BP TE6 X CN FWP LCT TE6 LCT X CN FWP X TE4 X LCT TE4 CN X BP LCT TE4 X LCT Working from the bottom up, for each bead insert a headpin, make the loop portion of your wrapped loop, and then hook it into the chain before completing the wrap. Whatever combination you choose, you might find some adjustment is needed when you begin arranging the beads on the chain since different sizes and shape will behave differently. I like to hang several beads on the chain before wrapping them to see how they hang together. Once you have finished attaching all of the beads, attach the first link of the chain to your earwire. Repeat for the second earring and you have a cascading pair of earrings! If you are having too much fun to stop, make one more cascade for a "Y" necklace. Attach it to a 16" length of chain and your ensemble is complete.
